Have I Been Pwned?

With the endless number of data breaches occurring everyday, the ability to determine if an online account has been compromised is pivotal. Have I Been Pwned is just one tool to help with this situation. Enter an email address into the website form and click the pwned? button and it will analyze whether or not the account has been compromised in a data breach.

Although Have I Been Pwned? is not an extension like Google Password Checkup or Firefox Monitor, it invariably is a useful tool for inspecting accounts for data breaches and even includes notifications for future issues.

The Have I Been Pwned website also offers a notify function to inform an individual of a new data breach that occurs in the future. The Domain Search section

“allows you to find all email addresses on a particular domain that have been caught up in any of the data breaches currently in the system.”

Pwned websites is yet another section of the website examining breached websites “that have been loaded into Have I Been Pwned.” Pwned websites offers an overview of the various breaches that have recently occurred.

Have I Been Pwned also has an API (API v2) available using a RESTful service to build your own application to search compromised accounts (email addresses and usernames). The API v2 section includes information on how to extract data on breaches, pastes, pwded passwords and other pertinent topics. A donate section is available to help fund and further expand this vital project.
