SearchGPT is OpenAI’s latest experiment in the AI driven search engine world to provide users with fast and timely answers followed up with clear and relevant sources. Although still considered a prototype, OpenAI plans on releasing refined version of SearchGPT in the future:

We’re testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources. We’re launching to a small group of users and publishers to get feedback. While this prototype is temporary, we plan to integrate the best of these features directly into ChatGPT in the future.

SearchGPT is faster and easier via the conversational capabilities of our models with real-time information obtained from the internet with clear links to relevant sources. Users can also ask follow-up questions in a conversational style with each query producing more relevant answers.

The SearchGPT format will partner with publishers to offer even better search engine integration that will benefit both publishers and search engine users:

We’ve partnered with publishers to build this experience and continue to seek their feedback. In addition to launching the SearchGPT prototype, we are also launching a way for publishers to manage how they appear in SearchGPT, so publishers have more choices. Importantly, SearchGPT is about search and is separate from training OpenAI’s generative AI foundation models. Sites can be surfaced in search results even if they opt out of generative AI training.

SearchGPT users and publishers will be providing feedback on the prototype and will further continue to improve the AI search engine. For users interested in trying SearchGPT, a SearchGPT waitlist is available for sign-up.
