Apple recently debuted the iPhone X, with an all-glass design, 5.8-inch Super Retina display, A11 Bionic chip, wireless charging and an improved rear camera with dual optical image stabilization and Face ID made possible by the new TrueDepth camera. The iPhone X will be available for pre-order Friday, October 27 and available in stores Friday, November 3.
Described as “revolutionary” the iPhone X design features an all-screen display with elegantly rounded corners. An all-glass front and back comes in silver or space gray with a surgical-grade stainless steel band seamlessly wraps around the outer edge. A seven-layer color process and a reflective optical layer make this iPhone “elegant as it is durable.” It is also water and dust resistance.

“with stunning colors, true blacks, a million-to-one contrast ratio and wide color support with the best system-wide color management in a smartphone.”
The HDR display which supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 and True Tone white balance matching with surrounding light are other significant features. The iPhone X Home button has been replaced “with fast and fluid gestures, allowing customers to naturally and intuitively navigate iPhone X.”
Authentication on the iPhone X is easier than ever with Face ID which combines a state-of-the-art TrueDepth camera system, along with the A11 Bionic processing power to accurately map and recognize facial features to “securely unlock iPhone, enable Apple Pay, gain access to secure apps and many more new features.”
The iPhone X has two cameras front and back. The front 7 megapixel TrueDepth camera with Face ID, features wide color capture, auto image stabilization and precise exposure control, and Portrait mode. The rear dual camera with optical image stabilization features a ƒ/1.8 aperture wide angle camera and a ƒ/2.4 aperture telephoto camera.
A “new color filter, deeper pixels and an improved Apple-designed image signal processor delivers advanced pixel processing, wide color capture, faster autofocus in low light and better HDR photos and quad LED True Tone Flash” are some more outstanding aspects of the iPhone X.
Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting allows “capture stunning portraits with a shallow depth-of-field effect in five different lighting styles.” The iPhone X AR experiences are bolstered through cameras individually calibrated, with new gyroscopes and accelerometers for accurate motion tracking, the A11 Bionic CPU, a fast and efficient GPU and ARKit, for iOS app and game development.
The iPhone X has the highest quality video capture for a smartphone with better video stabilization, 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p slo-mo up to 240fps. HEIF and HEVC compression and storage produce room for twice the photos and videos.
By using the A11 Bionic and the TrueDepth camera, users “can record and send Animoji messages that mirror their facial expressions.” Animoji, including a panda, unicorn and robot and a dozen others, animates those expressions from users 50 different facial muscle movements.
Featuring six-core CPU design, the Apple designed A11 Bionic is “the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone.” The two performance cores are 25 percent faster and the four efficiency cores are 70 faster. An overall 70 percent performance improvement for multi-threaded workloads results thanks to a new second-generation performance controller for all six cores. An A11 Bionic integrated Apple-designed GPU with a three-core design produces 30 percent faster graphics performance than previous ones.
The iPhone X has a glass back for a world-class wireless charging solution complemented by the established Qi ecosystem, wireless charging mats from Belkin and mophie.
