Available for preorder Friday, September 15 and available in stores Friday, September 22, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus advanced features include “New Glass and Aluminum Design, Retina HD Displays, A11 Bionic Chip, New Single and Dual Cameras with Support for Portrait Lighting, Wireless Charging and Optimized for Augmented Reality.” Apple’s new iOS 11, the World’s Most Advanced Mobile Operating System, is now part of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Apple’s Phone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus design has been significantly updated with a durable glass back with a color-matched aerospace-grade aluminum bezel. Three new finishes: space gray, silver and gold options are available, along with dust and water resistance. New Retina HD 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays are also part of the picture.

A vibrant wide color gamut based on industry standards offers exceptional accurate color. IPhone 8’s stereo speakers are “25 percent louder and deliver deeper bass, enabling richer-sounding music, videos and speakerphone calls.”

Featuring six-core CPU design, the Apple designed A11 Bionic is “the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone.” The two performance cores are 25 percent faster and the four efficiency cores are 70 faster. An overall 70 percent performance improvement for multi-threaded workloads results thanks to a new second-generation performance controller for all six cores. An A11 Bionic integrated Apple-designed GPU with a three-core design produces 30 percent faster graphics performance than previous ones.

The iPhone 8 Plus cameras are specifically designed for AR (augmented reality) experiences: They are “individually calibrated, with new gyroscopes and accelerometers for accurate motion tracking.” The A11 Bionic also contributes to the AR experience. The chip “handles world tracking, scene recognition and incredible graphics at 60fps, while the image signal processor does real-time lighting estimation.” The ARKit, for creating gaming and apps, allows iOS developers to fully utilize the world’s largest AR platform.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus 12 pixel camera features a larger and faster sensor, a new color filter and deeper pixels. The camera’s image signal processor includes advanced pixel processing, wide color capture, faster autofocus in low light and better HDR photos. A quad LED True Tone Flash with Slow Sync improves lighting in backgrounds and foregrounds.

Another interesting camera feature is the Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting which brings “dramatic studio lighting effects to iPhone, allowing customers to capture stunning portraits with a shallow depth-of-field effect in five different lighting styles.”

“The highest quality video capture ever in a smartphone with better video stabilization, 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p slo-mo up to 240fps” are part of the iPhone 8 and Plus camera’s capabilities. Other significant features are real-time image and motion analysis and HEIF and HEVC with two times compression and storage for photos and videos.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has a glass back to facilitate wireless charging. Belkin and mophie currently offer these wireless charging mats for the Qi ecosystem.
