Android 7.0 Nougat Rollout

Android 7.0 Nougat Rollout

Recently Android 7.0 Nougat was released to Nexus devices users. The LG V20 will be the first smartphone with Android 7.0 Nougat installed. Another release to the public, particularly developers, is the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), which allows users to examine the new Android 7.0 Nougat source code. Android 7.0 Nougat’s 250 new features include VR Mode in Android for starters, to “provide high quality mobile VR experiences.”

Among the other significant features, Multi window views for simultaneously running two apps, Vulcan API for high-performance, 3D graphics, JIT/AOT compiler for quicker app installation, reduced app storage space and improved performance overall, Direct Reply notifications, which do not require app interaction and new security and privacy attributes which are enhanced by “new features like File-based encryption, seamless updates, and Direct Boot.”

Apps using the new Android version should begin updating their apps for current compatibility with API 24. For testing purposes, “Google Play’s beta testing feature to get early feedback from a small group of users — including those using Android 7.0 Nougat — and then doing a staged rollout as you release the updated app to all users” is a very useful tool.”
