Available beginning Tuesday, October 26, the Apple MacBook Pro (from $1999) is designed for developers, photographers, filmmakers, 3D artists, scientists, music producers, and anyone who wants the world’s best notebook with “a 1080p camera, the best audio system in a notebook, and the most advanced connectivity ever in a MacBook Pro.” The MacBook Pro key features are the super fast M1 Pro or M1 Max chip which is the first Apple silicon designed for pros. Apple silicon chips equal extreme performance and spectacular battery life, “the first notebook of its kind,” as defined by Apple.

The Apple MacBook Pro new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips effectively balance performance and power efficiency:

“M1 Pro and M1 Max revolutionize the MacBook Pro experience and mark a huge step forward in the transition to Apple silicon on Mac. MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max applies a system-on-a-chip (SoC) architecture to pro systems for the first time, featuring fast unified memory and increased memory bandwidth for unparalleled performance with best-in-class performance per watt and industry-leading power efficiency.”

The M1 Pro chip has up-to-10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores, up-to-16-core GPU, 200GB/s of memory bandwidth, up to 32GB of fast unified memory. Overall, M1 Pro delivers up to 70 percent faster CPU performance than the M1 chip, up to 2x faster GPU performance and nearly 3x the bandwidth of M1. The M1 chip was used in last year’s MacBook Pro 13 inch model and this year’s iMac.

The world’s most powerful chip for a pro notebook, M1 Max is built for video. More than capable, the M1 max powerful 10-core CPU, GPU up to a massive 32 cores and up to 64GB of fast unified memory. This huge amount of memory available enables unbounded creativity:

“3D artists on the new MacBook Pro can now easily work with extreme geometry and textures in scenes that pro PC laptops can’t even run.1 M1 Max also offers an enhanced media engine that features two ProRes accelerators for even higher multi-stream performance. As a result, pros can edit up to 30 streams of 4K ProRes video or up to seven streams of 8K ProRes video in Final Cut Pro — more streams than on a 28-core Mac Pro with Afterburner.”

The Apple MacBook Pro features industry-Leading power efficiency and extraordinary battery life. The 14-inch model can produce up to 17 hours of video playback. The 16-inch model can get up to 21 hours of video playback— the longest battery life for a Mac notebook. For developers working in Xcode, up to 4x as much code can be compiled. when editing images in Adobe Lightroom Classic, Photographers will get up to 2x longer battery life.

One standout aspect of the MacBook Pro is the extensive connectivity options: “Three Thunderbolt 4 ports to connect high-speed peripherals, an SDXC card slot for fast access to media, an HDMI port for conveniently connecting to displays and TVs, and an improved headphone jack that supports high-impedance headphones.” Fast charge debuts on the Mac, charging up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. MagSafe makes a comeback with MagSafe3 making connecting a charge cable quick and easy while protecting MacBook Pro.

The Apple MacBook Pro all-new aluminum enclosure indicates Apple’s focus on performance and utility. An advanced thermal system also contributes to this goal:

“An advanced thermal system that can move 50 percent more air than the previous generation, even at lower fan speeds. The thermal design enables MacBook Pro to deliver phenomenal sustained performance while staying cool and quiet.”

The MacBook Pro display attributes offer a stunning Liquid Retina XDR display: “Featuring the mini-LED technology used in iPad Pro, the Liquid Retina XDR display delivers up to 1,000 nits of sustained, full-screen brightness, an incredible 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.” ProMotion technology produces an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz. ProMotion adapts the refresh rate and matches it to the motion of a user’s onscreen content- greatly conserving battery life and creating a more fluid and more responsive environment, especially for video editors.

Apple defines the MacBook Pro the “Best Camera and Audio Ever in a Mac Notebook.” A 1080p FaceTime HD camera with double resolution and low-light performance. The camera system itself is run by image signal processor (ISP) and Neural Engine of M1 Pro and M1 Max for enhanced video quality. Industry-leading studio-quality mics, a high-fidelity six-speaker sound system and spatial audio round out the MacBookPro’s features.
