U.S. House of Representatives IT Blocks Google and Yahoo

For the last two weeks, an IT team from the U.S House of Representatives has effectively blocked representatives from using Yahoo Mail, Gmail and appspot.com, “the domain where Google hosts custom-built apps.” Purportedly since June 2015, Google’s appspot.com has been hosting a remote access trojan which is designed to extract personal information from users.

Gmail and Yahoo Email have been targeted because of two recent phishing attacks which reportedly included two house members. In particular Yahoo has been blocked because of “ransomware infiltration.” Both Google and Yahoo are currently working with the U.S. House to mitigate the current situation.
