2021 Digital Quality of Life Index Examines Digital Wellbeing in 110 Countries, Image/Tech Mainstream
Based on global research on the quality of a digital wellbeing in 110 countries (90% of the global population), the 2021 Digital Quality of Life Index examines five fundamental pillars that define the countries digital quality of life:
“DQL index is calculated by looking at the impact of five core pillars: internet affordability, internet quality, e-infrastructure, e-security, e-government.”
Europe continues to dominate digital quality of life with 6 out of 10 countries with the highest DQL are located in Europe. Eighteen countries out of the top 50 are located outside of Europe.
The top ten 2021 Digital Quality of Life Index countries are listed below:

9. Germany
10. United Kingdom
Worldwide broadband internet is less affordable in 2021. Whereas, mobile internet was more affordable this year. Although internet affordability was the the least important factor in the entire DQL (0.55 correlation).
Electronic infrastructure (0.93 correlation) and electronic government (0.92 correlation) investment overall contributes significantly to people’s digital wellbeing.
GDP per capita has a strong correlation with the DQL, some countries have better digital quality of life with lower GDP per capita than expected- focused strategic planning being more important than GDP spending alone.
