Google Home “allows you to bring the Google Assistant into your kitchen, living room or anywhere else around the house.” The size of a small speaker, it is a type of computer with only a few hidden LED lights to identify it. Available in November, it will cost $129 at the Google Store, Best Buy, Target and Walmart.
Say “Ok Google” and you can now start listening to songs, artists, radio stations, your favorite playlists and more from Google Play Music, Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, YouTube Music with iHeartRadio coming soon. Listen to the lastest news on podcasts, “stream audio directly from your phone, [and] cast music to Google Home from 100+ Chromecast-enabled apps on your Android or iOS device.”
Ask questions and receive answers from Google Search and receive the answers you want without needing a phone, tablet or computer. Google Home acts like a personal assistant and can “check your calendar or even pull up your flight information.” It can perform other tasks such as “wake you up in the morning, set kitchen timers, and keep track of your shopping list.”
Google Home can direct devices in your house that are Chromecast enabled- speakers and TVs (YouTube, Netflix and Google Photos). Besides audio and visual devices, you can also “control your lights, thermostats and switches with popular home automation systems like Philips Hue, Nest, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT.”
As for home décor matching, Google Home comes with a customizable base, with various colors and finishes. Although it has no buttons, a touch surface can be used instead of voice commands. You can also have Google Home devices in multi-rooms. They can be paired with Chromecast enabled audio and speakers. Only the nearest Google Home device will respond to you. Google Home will indeed be your all-around assistant for the home.
