It's Official, Android 8.0 Oreo is Here

“Android Oreo superpowers, coming to a device near you.” Android 8.0 Oreo has finally arrived out of the cookie jar development training camp and is now “a superhero to have by your side.” I love Oreos, but this Oreo does more than crunch.

Picture-in-picture allows you to see two apps at once. Notifications are now under control with notification dots which “let you tap to see what’s new in your apps,” particularly your favorites on the home screen. In the area of security, Google Play Protect greatly improves Android Oreo “built in, security status front and center in settings, and tighter app install controls.” Battery life is improved and longer by minimizing “unintentional overuse of battery from apps in the background.”

With Android Oreo’s faster boot speed, you can complete tasks quickly “(up to twice as fast on Pixel, in fact) .” Autofill also moves you along faster by remembering logins for easy access to your apps. Android Instant Apps lets you experience apps without installing them. Android Oreo has also introduced a line of fully-redesigned emojis.

When is Android Oreo available? Pixel and Nexus 5X/6P (Pixel C and Nexus Player) will be rolled out in phases first. Other smartphone manufacturers , including Essential, General Mobile, HMD Global Home of Nokia Phones, Huawei, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung, Sharp and Sony are scheduled to launch or upgrade devices to Android Oreo later this year. Participants in the Android Beta Program will receive the Android Oreo final version.
