Amazon, DeepMind/Google, Facebook, IBM and Microsoft Form a Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Best Practices

Recently, Amazon, DeepMind/Google, Facebook, IBM and Microsoft tech industry researchers met at IBM’s Watson headquarters in New York City to discuss the implications surrounding AI technology and its usage in society. Rather than being a politically inclined group, the partnership, as in an official statement recognizes that

“together, the organization’s members will conduct research, recommend best practices, and publish research under an open license in areas such as ethics, fairness and inclusivity; transparency, privacy, and interoperability; collaboration between people and AI systems; and the trustworthiness, reliability and robustness of the technology.”

Among the elements of this collaboration consists of a board including both corporate and non-corporate members. Also the partnership will join with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), as well as non-profit research groups including the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2).

The overall goal will be to improve and maintain AI’s positive influence in the realms of “healthcare, education, and manufacturing to home automation and transportation” for society’s full benefit.
