Google’s recent reveal at Google I/O 2026 introduced its intelligent eyewear with new frames from Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The glasses are powered by Android XR, a platform developed with a partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm. Android XR, besides powering phones, also is found on tablets, watches, TVs, cars and now glasses. The glasses are Google’s first glasses released since Google Glass was previously introduced.
The glasses are designed to give immediate and useful information about your surroundings while still keeping you in tune with the current environment. Two types of intelligent eyewear will be released, “audio glasses that offer spoken help in your ear, and display glasses that show you the information you need, right when you need it.” Both models permit hands-free and heads up ability and will be powered by Gemini AI. The Audio glasses version will be available later this fall.
The glasses are not only informative and helpful yet also stylish and comfortable. Daily use is further enhanced by the addition of Samsung and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker collaboration.
Gemini can be accessed by simply saying “Hey Google” or tapping the side of the glasses frame. The glasses main features are as follows:
- Navigate with ease: Glasses know where youโre standing and which direction you’re facing, so theyโll give you natural, turn-by-turn directions.
- Stay connected, hands-free: Manage calls, send texts and have Gemini summarize missed messages without reaching for your phone. Or ask to listen to music that complements your environment.
- Capture and edit: Snap high-quality photos and videos instantly. With a single command you can take a picture and use Nano Banana to remove background distractions or playfully transform your images.
- Translate speech and writing: Get real-time translations with audio that matches the tone and pitch of the speakerโs voice, or simply look at text on menus and signs to hear a translation.
- Get help with tasks: Gemini Intelligence handles multi-step tasks in the background. Gemini can prepare your coffee order on Doordash while your phone stays in your pocket.
- Tap into your apps: Order a ride with Uber, learn a new language with Mondly and more, just by using your voice with your phoneโs apps.
