The App Store and Google Play worldwide non-gaming app downloads data between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2021 is now available. Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform determines app download estimates.
With over 63 million installs, Telegram was the most downloaded non-gaming app worldwide for January 2021- 3.8 times its downloads in January 2020. The most downloads were from India (24 %) and Indonesia (10 %).
A close second, TikTok was in second place, with 62 million downloads. Douyin in China (17%) led the most downloads followed by the US (10%).
Signal, Facebook, and WhatsApp were 3rd, 4th and 5th place. respectively, in app downloads.
Other considerations when exploring the app download data is how it is interpreted. Apple and Google pre-installed apps are excluded. Only unique app installs are recorded. Android third-party stores are not included. Aggregate installs of all app versions are delineated.
