Google has made a VR viewer out of cardboard. Although Google Cardboard’s design has been around for several years now. Google Cardboard makes sense especially for one on a budget and apparently is at least partially recyclable.
Instead of buying a higher priced, sophisticated, plasticized virtual reality viewer like Google Daydream View, you can get a partially laminated cardboard with high-quality lenses version that works comparatively well. Google’s apparent goal here is to introduce individuals to the world of Virtual Reality for a small cost- $15 USD and to appeal to everyone with a simplified design.
Google Cardboard supports Android or iOS smartphones, which can be placed at the back of the viewer, with 4-6 inches screen size. The smartphone must be compatible with Google Cardboard supporting apps. The Google Cardboard app will help you “launch your favorite VR experiences, discover new apps, and set up a viewer.” YouTube’s 360 Channel, a virtual reality channel, contains plentiful 360 VR videos for viewing with Cardboard.
The Cardboard Camera app transforms you smartphone into a virtual reality (VR) camera equipped to tackle “immersive panoramas with sound.” Google Street View is another app that can be used in conjunction with Cardboard to dramatically view world landmarks, natural wonders and new locations.
