Google’s newest private trans-Atlantic subsea cable project, Dunant named after innovator, Henri Dunant, the first Nobel Peace Prize winner and Red Cross co-founder was recently announced.
Spanning the Atlantic Ocean from Virginia Beach in the U.S. to the French Atlantic coast will bolster Google’s current network, “already the world’s largest” and help better serve customers and users. The project is slated for completion in late 2020.
Dunant is essentially “supplementing one of the busiest routes on the internet, and supporting the growth of Google Cloud.” Along with previously initiated project, Curie, Dunant is also a privately funded project. The project will provide, “well-provisioned, high-bandwidth, low-latency, highly secure cloud connections between the U.S. and Europe.”
