Becoming CyberAware is more possible as citizens are informed and educated through the annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Each October, the effort of the NCSAM, is to instruct "every digital citizen and business across the globe learn how to take simple security precautions to protect themselves and their personal information and share the responsibility of protecting others online."
The recommended helpful tips for increasing your cybersecurity awareness are to "Lock Down Your Login, Keep a clean machine, Personal information is like money. Value it. Protect it., When in doubt, throw it out, Share with care, and Own your online presence." An infographic is available for more STOP. THINK. CONNECT.™ tips at STOP. THINK. CONNECT.™: The Basic Steps To Online Safety and Security Besides offering instant tips, extensive educational resources such as toolkits, newsletters and online resources such as from ConnectSafely.org and LockDownYourLogin.com. Additionally, the NCSAM offers both national and international events for further cybersecurity education. For the month of October, NCSAM can be followed on Twitter at hashtag #CyberAware. Also Twitter chats will be available each Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT to examine topics and trends in cybersecurity."
